Color is the refraction of light, the embrace of the eyes, and the purification of the soul. — Wu Shuang

MRKT5 is honored to present "Spin Light: Wu Shuang Solo Exhibition." Wu Shuang, born in Chongqing in 1986, is a young abstract expressionist artist. She studied at the School of Fine Arts at Kassel University in Germany in 2007, graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2009, and continued her master's studies, graduating from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2014. This is Wu Shuang's first solo exhibition in Taiwan. She creates paintings to be a perceptive recorder of her times, capturing the fleeting moments of light and life.
Wu Shuang writes about her art: “Art is like a healing balm for humanity, leaving traces in the torrent of history, confronting the emotions, joys, and sorrows we have experienced. Art may not change much, but it seeks resonance with human feelings. These feelings are real, and they fill us with hope.” Wu Shuang’s paintings are vibrant, with powerful brushstrokes and dynamic colors. She believes that in the real world, colors are illusions created by light refraction; they are inclusive of the eyes and purify the soul. For Wu Shuang, painting is a process from nothing to something — “The dramatic scenes in my works are hidden within chaotic colors, until patches of vibrant hues appear before my eyes. The canvas shelters these lights, giving them a refuge.”
She confronts her feelings, expresses them through vivid colors, and invites viewers to empathize. Beneath Wu Shuang’s seemingly free and uninhibited style lies a rational and rigorous mind. Her works demonstrate her adventurous spirit, capturing the emotions of our era and inspiring hope in viewers again.
