A Encounter of Architecture and Art with Kengo Kuma | Commemorating the Establishment of WHITESTONE's New Space

White Stone Gallery, with two locations in Ginza, as well as spaces in Karuizawa, Taipei, and Hong Kong, is expanding in 2023 to include Beijing, Singapore, and Seoul. For the new spaces, the renowned architect Kengo Kuma was commissioned to design. We spoke with Mr. Kuma, who is involved in various architectural projects worldwide, about the design of White Stone Gallery's new spaces.

 


About the Renowned Japanese Architect Kengo Kuma
Kengo Kuma, who began gaining attention in the late 1970s, became a leading figure in Japanese architecture by the 1990s. His projects, such as the Nakagawa Machi Bato Hiroshige Museum of Art and the Bamboo House near the Great Wall of China, elevated his international profile. He continues to be involved in numerous projects both domestically and internationally.
Kuma's architecture is characterized by designs that incorporate natural elements and light, harmonizing with the surrounding environment. His use of materials, especially wood, in structural and aesthetic aspects has earned him the title of 'Master of Japanese Style.' He is known for pioneering new relationships between nature, technology, and humans. He also regularly writes about his activities and has authored many publications.
